CARAF is an organization dedicated to connecting scientific researchers (and professionals) from the Caribbean or based in the Caribbean, and providing them with effective ways to advance their careers. We also aim to create awareness and help bring more scientific research to the Dutch Caribbean. We hope to become the bridge between the Netherlands and the islands and to Let the Knowledge Flow.

Job Description Executive board member

We are looking for persons residing in the Netherlands, Aruba, Bonaire, Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Maarten wanting to join our executive board. Your role as executive board member would be to form the bridge between our work in the Netherlands and local experts on the island. You will be the local representative of CARAF supported by committee members that will assist you in order to get the job done. This is a very crucial role, with your cooperation we can get a better lay of the land by getting the correct information across in the least amount of time.Your role as an executive board member will also enable us to understand and facilitate the needs regarding research and knowledge dissemination in the Dutch Caribbean.

Your Profile

You are driven and professional with a passion for science & research, the Caribbean, and enjoys working in a team setting. This role can ultimately help you make an impact on Caribbean research (while still living in the Netherlands). Furthermore, you can assist future generations of Dutch Caribbean students who would like to pursue a career in science and also facilitate research that has an impact on local legislation.


  • Gathering updates from research professionals on the island you represent
  • Form a committee and manage meetings
  • Organize and attend events on the islands
  • Provide the board with updates regarding research that is being conducted
  • Refer interested researchers/parties to the Board of directors

Job Requirements

  • This position is open for students or young professionals with a passion for Caribbean research
  • Team player/Open communication/Solution-oriented
  • Organizational skills and good with deadlines
  • Verbal and written communication skills in English & Dutch 
  • Can dedicate an average of 1-4 hours p/week (variable)
  • Native of one of the six Dutch Caribbean islands is a pre
